UConn freshman guard Braylon Mullins, a five-star recruit in the incoming class, suffered an ankle injury in practice this week and will miss about six weeks, the school said Friday.
Mullins, last year’s “Mr. Basketball” for the state of Indiana, was named the preseason Big East Freshman of the Year earlier this week.
He figured to play a major role right away for a Huskies program that won national titles under coach Dan Hurley in 2023 and 2024.
A 6-foot-6 shooting guard, Mullins was the No. 15 overall recruit in the Class of 2026, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
No. 4 UConn opens the season Nov. 3 against New Haven. Mullins’ timetable means he is likely to miss games against five opponents ranked in the preseason poll — No. 8 BYU, No. 13 Arizona, No. 17 Illinois, No. 19 Kansas and No. 3 Florida, the defending national champion. The Huskies will face all of those teams by Dec. 9.
