New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal will be a healthy scratch for Thursday’s road game against the Carolina Hurricanes, coach Patrick Roy announced.
Barzal arrived late for Thursday’a morning skate in Raleigh, N.C., Roy said, and will return to the lineup on Friday when New York visits the Washington Capitals.
Barzal, 28, has two goals and shares the team lead in assists (six) with captain Anders Lee through nine games.
Signed to an eight-year, $73.2 million contract in 2022, Barzal has recorded 470 points (136 goals, 334 assists) in 539 career games since being selected by the Islanders with the 16th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
