New Jersey forward Evan Rodrigues was fined $5,000 for high-sticking Vancouver Canucks forward Marco Rossi during the Devils’ 4-1 win on Saturday in Newark, N.J.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Sunday announced the fine, which is the maximum allowable under the league’s collective bargaining agreement. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Rodrigues was assessed a double-minor penalty of four minutes for high-sticking at 19:50 of the second period.
Rodrigues, 33, has no points, one block, six hits, three shots on goal, a minus-4 rating and the four penalty minutes in four games in his first season with the Devils.
He has 270 career points (107 goals, 163 assists), a minus-21 rating, 221 penalty minutes, 228 blocks and 536 hits in 620 regular-season games with the Buffalo Sabres (2015-20), Pittsburgh Penguins (2020-22), Colorado Avalanche (2022-23), Florida Panthers (2023-26) and Devils.
He also has 41 points (13 goals, 28 assists) in 61 playoff games, winning Stanley Cup championships with the Panthers in 2024 and 2025.
The Panthers traded Rodrigues, Ben Steeves and Jesper Boqvist to the Devils for Angus Crookshank and Jacob Markstrom on June 30.
