Forward Alex DeBrincat and the Detroit Red Wings are finalizing a seven-year contract extension valued at $13 million annually, ESPN reported on Tuesday night.
DeBrincat leads the Red Wings with eight points, four goals, four assists and a plus-7 rating in six games after he scored twice and added an assist in their 5-4 overtime loss at home to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old was eligible for a contract extension this summer, before the new collective bargaining agreement started in September. The former maximum for a contract was eight years; now it is seven.
For his career, DeBrincat has 603 points (298 goals, 305 assists), 198 penalty minutes, 281 blocks and 557 hits in 702 regular-season games for the Chicago Blackhawks (2017-22), Ottawa Senators (2022-23) and Red Wings (2023-present).
An All-Star in 2022 and 2024, he also has six points (two goals, four assists), nine penalty minutes, three blocks and 13 hits in nine playoff games with Chicago in the 2019-20 season.
Chicago selected DeBrincat in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
